Our initial ideas for music was to go for an upbeat indie rock song which was slightly outdated, as we thought that this would go with the vintage feel of the piece and I feel it would fit well with themes which we were going to explore in our original trailer idea. Examples of this include the music used in the trailer for Kids from 1995, as it enhances the stereotypical view of teenagers, as this can be seen to be related to the rock culture which has connotations of things such as violence and drugs, which as also commonly associated with teenagers. To get songs like this we looked at bands such as:
We then also explored the use of the song blinded by the lights and how it is used in its music video to create more of the effect of being a voice-over rather than a song which is being sung which I thought was very effective. However on reflection using something like this could work with our piece but finding a song like this one which we would be able to use, with suitable lyrics to the trailer which we will have made would be hard, and we do not have the resources to create something like this.
Due to the change of idea however this led us away from the indie rock vibe, as this would work well with the middle section of the trailer were the main character is showing a lot of anger, however would be less suited to the part were the trailer develops into more of a romance. This meant that I started off by looking at what copyright free music was available for us to use, however we were continuously unsuccessful with our search. This led to me emailing several small bands which I saw live and many of them replied saying that they were happy for us to use their music in our piece. The song which I thought was most fitting in the end was:
Finally for the music in the opening party scene we decided we wanted a basic beat which with layered sounds over the top, including sound effects of people talking. For this we created the sound ourselves on Garage-band, also altered the music to make there a difference from when he is walking up to the house and is inside the party.
