By watching the trailer 'Call Me By Your Name' we were able to gain a lot of ideas from lighting to actors, as this trailer follows a similar concept to what we would like to achieve in ours with regard to genre. Throughout the trailer we are able to a development between the two male characters, through the use of lighting and camera work as well as the acting and script. This development appears to show both good and bad times between the characters which is further enhanced by the consistent use in change in lighting, colouring and mise-en-scene to reflect the atmosphere.
For example the when the two characters appear to be happy and getting along well they are shown in either a Summer's day lighting, usually surrounded by the beautiful Italian countryside or pretty peaceful villages, overall giving positive connotations to the audiences. However when either one of them appears to be upset the lighting is automatically darker, the scenery is less impressive and also the weather is less like a summer's day.
Moreover as a group we have recently discussed problems which we may encounter with our actors as we have realized that they may feel uncomfortable being intimate with each other as they are not professional actors. However as we watched this trailer we have realized that this may not be an issue as it is possible through the use of good camera work and body language that you are able to achieve the same affect without the characters having to go through this. From this we have taken inspiration from some of the key scenes with below with things such as positioning of the actors etc to ensure that the characters are conveying the emotional connection to the camera.
The trailer also follows the theme of only subtly showing their love for one another throughout which is something which we have decided to also do, as we feel that this will attract more of an audience. This can be seen in scenes such as how the boy with dark hair walks through the door frame in what appears to be only just a shirt conveying subtle connotations of the genre and plot to the audience. Moreover the progression of how often the two characters are seen together builds more throughout the trailer and this is something which we were also planning on following.
However our trailer will also being touching on social realism and not just follow the conventions of a romance like this trailer does meaning that we will be exploring the use of different locations which convey this, as well as following problems from a younger age group.
